My personal heroes are a big part of my life and how I develop into the person I am and to still be. I have chosen to describe why my parents are the biggest heroes of my life. There are three main reasons of why they are so important to me. My parents have been and still are the biggest positive influence in my life. Also, they have done nearly everything that good parents would do and have helped me with the struggles in my religion along with a couple of other problems. I remember how they helped me get through the temptations of drugs and alcohol and because I am only seventeen they are still currently helping me get through this tough stretch of my life.
Positive influence is something every teenager or even person needs to have in their life. My parents were the people that have that positive influence on me. For example, there was a time in my life where I was thinking of dropping out of high school. This was my freshman year and a really hard year for me. My parents helped me get through this situation by not allowing me to drop out. I remember my dad telling me that if I dropped out he wouldn't let me go to driving school. As a fifteen year old at the time, I yearned to get my license at sixteen and this had a big part of what kept me in school. Another example is the friends that I had. My friends were a bad influence on me. They would skip and invite me to go with them. When we would skip school, they smoked and usually had some alcohol. I didn’t smoke but I drank a little not to stand out as a different person. My parents eventually found out and quickly put an end to it. The way I look at this is that if my parents did not care about what I did in my life, I would be in some deep trouble right now.
Good parents. What this means to me is that they show you how to live life as an adult and provide you with the daily necessities. My dad has shown me the working part of life very well. He would take me to construction on Saturday’s. His line of work is construction and let me tell you that it’s not the best way of making a living. So he would take me to work with him and as a result I learned the hard way of working for a living. Both of my parents have always provided our big family of eleven with all the necessities that we need. I recall wanting my own car. My dad had previously given my older brother and sister a car, so when it was my turn, he came through again. I say this because money has been and still is a problem in my family but my parents provide somehow. In my opinion, this is the mark of really good parents.
Religion is an extremely important part of my family's culture and tradition. So when I was having a hard time going to church and finding God, my parents were there to help me out. My mom got me involved with some church programs. I was in a Teen Class program that met once a week. I learned a lot in that class. Now that I am too old for that program I joined a Cell Group. This is a group of teenage guys who occasionally meet and discuss the Bible and life. My dad helped me get involved in this. I have to say that I needed all the help I could get with my struggles and my parents provided that help.
As I look back, I realize that heroes are people that truly have a marvelous impact on an individual’s life. In some cases, they are role models. I used to think of a hero only as a figure that you want to be when you grow up. Now I know that it is both. I am glad I can say that my parents have a big impact on my life. They are truly my heroes!

Essay 2: Rough Draft
My personal heroes are a big part of my life and how I develop into the person I am and to still be. I have about three heroes overall. Each one of them represent something important in my life. For example, Jesus Christ is the hero that represents my religion, Kobe Bryant stands for the sports part of my life and last but not least my parents are my heroes in every other aspect of my life. I have chosen to describe why my parents are the biggest heroes of my life. There are three main ways of why they are so important to me. Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met.

Essay 1: Revised Vonnuget Style ( Made it more simple )
Moving to the United States of America! I did not know what to think since I was only seven but to my parents it seemed as if we had won the some money. This took place on June of 1998. I would like to explain why my family made the move from our home in Ukraine to a new home in America. There are three main reasons that show why we made the decision to move. Religious freedom, better life in America and the fact that many relatives were either there or planning to go.
Religious freedom was probably a bigger reason of the three. Our religion is the most important thing to my family other than the family itself. The specific belief is Pentecostal. Back in Ukraine, there was a time when the Soviet Union ruled and Communism did not allow any religion to function with freedom and even though their reign ended in 1991, the times in Ukraine were not that good. My grandpa actually served a lot of prison time because he would not deny his religion. For example, in Ukraine everyone guy had to go to the army when they turned eighteen years old and I remember my dad and grandpa telling us stories of how they refused to use any weapons and because of this they got punished and made fun of. We knew that in America, we would be able to practice our religion without being looking behind. This helped us to want to go to America.
Better life in America. It's true, living in America is better because of these reasons. For example, there are many more opportunities for a career or a good job in America. In Ukraine, my parents job was growing products in our garden. They would sell them at the local bazaar, which is an outdoor grocery store. Also, most of the streets in Ukraine were made of mud and dirt and traveling on foot is really common in Ukraine. Along with this, education in America seemed to have a more promising. This is true because it is more promising. The schools are better the teaching and classes are also much better. We also had to walk a long way to school in Ukraine. There are more reasons, but I think point is shown. Living in the United States of America is much better than the Ukraine.
Final reason is the fact that nearly half of our relatives had already left to America and the rest were planning to go also. The families that were already living in the U.S. encouraged the families in the Ukraine to do the same. The funny thing was that about eighty percent of all our relatives lived on the same street. Also, my mom has 7 sisters and 5 brothers. This results in a lot of cousins. I remember going to the airport to see another family leave. We would eventually talk to them over the phone and they would describe America and the life there. This helped my parents finalize the decision.
I cannot imagine what my life would be like right now if my parents decided to stay in Ukraine. I hope I fully explained how this one event changed my life.

Essay 2 Prewriting
Some ideas of some heroes that I might be able to write my essay on.
Jesus Christ
He is my hero because he is the reason for everything in my life. I describe and explain how he became my hero and why he still is. My religion is based upon him and also revolves around him.
Kobe Bryant
He is my favorite sports athlete and a big hero in my life. The reasons for this is that not only is he one of the best basketball players in NBA history but his attitude is great on and off the field. If I had a chance to be a professional sports player, I would undoubtebly choose to be like him.
My parents
They have been the biggest positive influence in my life. They have done everything that a good parent needs to do. Basically, in my opinion, they are the best parents in the world.
Of these three possibilities, I am going to choose my parents. This is because I beleive it is the best choice and the essay will not be too difficult.
My intro will be something like... Heroes of my life. I have a couple, but for me the clear choice are my parents. Three main reasons are...

Essay 1 Reflection
Essay one was a good way to start the year because it helped me know how the rest of the essay's will go. Also, I have seen plenty of things that I should and should not do. For example, I lacked my own perspective in Essay one. Also, I lacked focus on one idea. These things will help my grades on the rest of my essay's if I incorporate them in my writing. Some things that I should do are write freely and when I write my drafts or prewrite, I can't pause to correct things, so I should write it down and fix it later. Good start to the year!

Essay #1: Revised Draft
Moving to the United States of America! Sound exciting? Probably not to you but for my family it sounded like heaven back in the summer of 1998. This story will show why my family made the move from our home in Ukraine to live in America. I would also like to explain how this humongous step affected me personally.
Why would anyone move from their comfortable home in the country they have always lived in, to a whole different country? Good question. There are three main reasons that this happened to my family. Religious freedom was probably a bigger reason of the three. Our religion is the most important thing to my family other than the family itself. As you might know, there are plenty of different types of Christians in this world. Our specific Christian belief is Pentecostal. The distinguishing part of being a Pentecostal is the belief in the Trio. This Trio consists of God himself, his son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Back in Ukraine, there was a time when the Soviet Union ruled. Communism did not allow any religion to function with freedom and even though their reign ended in 1991, the times in Ukraine were not the best, religion wise. My grandpa actually served a lot of prison time because he would not deny his religion. We knew that in America, we would be able to practice our religion without being persecuted. It had a lot to do with our motivation to go to America. Next reason is the fact that nearly half of our relatives had already left to America and the rest were planning on it. The families that were already living in the U.S. encouraged the families in the Ukraine to do the same. This helped my parents finalize the decision. Last reason is a list of smaller reasons. For example, there are many more opportunities for a career or a good job in America. Also, most of the streets in Ukraine were made of mud and dirt, the grocery store was basically an outdoor market that we called the bazaar and the education in America seemed more promising. There are more reasons, but I think you get the point. Living in the United States of America is much better than the Ukraine.
After reading the previous paragraph, you might think that moving must have been an easy decision and that we probably won't be homesick. Truth is, this move affected me greatly. For example, getting over the friends that were back at home was not easy. I was seven years old, so at the time, I didn’t fully understand why we were leaving. According to my parents, I was not the happiest person during the time. Also, I just wrapped up my first year in school and moving would mean that I would have to adjust to a different way of education. The move was great but it was kind of hard to fully change our way of life and believe it or not, there was plenty of change.
I can’t imagine what my life would be like right now if my parents decided to stay in Ukraine. I hope I fully explained how this one event completely changed my life.

Communism did not allow any religion to function with freedom. My grandpa had actually served a lot of prison time because he would not deny his religion. We knew that in America, we would be able to practice our religion without being persecuted. It had a lot to do with our motivation to go to America because even though the Soviet Union was gone, the times were not the best. Next reason was the fact that nearly half of our relatives had already left to America and the rest were planning on it. The families that were already living in the U.S. encouraged the families in the Ukraine to do the same. This helped my parents finalize the decision. Last reason is a list of smaller reasons. For example, there are many more opportunities for a career or a good job. Also, most of the streets were made of mud and dirt, the grocery store was basically and outdoor market that we called the bazaar and the education seemed more promising. There are some more reasons but I think you get the point, which is, living in the United States of America is much better than the Ukraine.
After reading the previous paragraph, you might think that moving must have been an easy decision and that we probably will not be that homesick. Truth is this move affected me greatly. For example, getting over the friends that were back at home was not that easy. I was seven years old, so at the time, I didn’t fully understand why we were leaving and according to my parents, I was not the happiest person. Also, I just finished the first grade and now I would have to adjust to a different way that education was being taught. The move was great but it was kind of hard to fully change our way of life. We changed nearly everything.
I can’t imagine what my life would be like if my parents decided to stay in Ukraine. This story explains how this one event can completely change anyone’s life.

This I Believe
- Christianity- This is my religion. There are many different types of Christians. The type that my church follows is Pentecostal. It is a big deal to me because nearly all of my friends and relatives believe and practice this religion...
Story Corps
- Scary Crash- This is a story about me and my cousin. We were in the woods at our favorite place. This was an area where there were many jumps around. They were made by some previous visitors. I think the jumps were meant for dirt bikes. Anyway, me and my cousin Mark absolutely had to take some of the jumps on our bikes...
- Move to the United States- This move was one of the most significant things that happened to me. By the time half of our relatives had already gone to the U.S., my parents decided that our family would go also...
Statement: As some of the students in the class, I found this matrix quite helpful when I read it. It gives me an insight to blogs and blogging.
Question: Why are blogs really that useful? Sorry, couldn't think of a better question.
